Weight is an issue that a majority of people, especially women, will struggle with at some point in their lives. The Zone Diet

One of the more popular diets for weight loss is the Zone diet. This diet plan advocates for a high protein, low carbohydrate eating plan that is also fat controlled. It allows for a wide variety of foods to be consumed in moderation. The plan spells out what “favorable” carbohydrates are and advocates for their consumption as opposed to less favorable forms of carbohydrates. The diet uses a (40-30-30) ratio i.e. 40% calories from carbohydrates, 30% from protein and 30% from fats. Proponents of this diet state that when this ratio is achieved, the body is operating in the “zone”.

The biggest advantage of the Zone diet is that it advocates for consuming all food groups in moderation. However, critics of this diet say that the diet is set on making one food group, for example, carbohydrates, look bad while encouraging more consumption of proteins. Research has shown that the body requires a balance of all these food groups to function properly.

The Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is one of the best known diets for weight loss.  It is a low carbohydrate, high protein and high fat diet plan. It is one if those diets for weight loss that has been around for decades.  It has undergone various revisions during that time. The Atkins diet allows for unrestricted consumption of proteins while severely restricting the consumption of carbohydrates. The latest version of the Atkins diet is however more balanced.

Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers is another one of the popular diets for weight loss that has been around for years. Although the diet plan has undergone numerous changes over the years, one thing that has remained constant is the weekly meeting by the members. The meetings are attended in person or via online support.  The focus of this diet is exercise, a balanced diet and lifestyle change.

So with all these fad diets out there, it is easy for one to get confused as to which of these diets for weight loss actually work, which ones are just out to get you to spend money on their product, or even worse, which ones could actually be harmful to your health.  It is best to come up with a personal diet plan which suits your lifestyle and your food preferences. Here are some tips that will help you achieve that:

• Your body works differently than the next person; therefore what works for him or her may not work for you.
• Create a food journal where you record everything you eat. This will help you to eliminate the foods which aren’t necessary for your good health, as well as track how much food you really eat.
• Set up your meals according to the number of calories you need and in ways which will raise your metabolism.  For example, eating several small meals a day rather than 3 larger ones.

It is important that one is not swayed by the many diets for weight loss that are out there.  Get on a diet plan which is healthy and with which you can stick for the long haul.
